In this immersive experience, you will step into the shoes of diverse individuals impacted by war. Feel the weight of responsibility as a soldier leaving behind loved ones to defend their country. Experience the sudden upheaval as a civilian girl caught in the midst of conflict, navigating its complexities. Join the mission as a local aid worker, striving to bring relief to those affected by the devastating consequences of war.

Our aim is to challenge your perceptions, provoke reflection, and ignite a deeper understanding of the nature of warfare. As you navigate through the dilemmas faced by ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, we hope to expand your empathy and compassion for those affected by armed conflict.

Countless individuals across Europe and beyond have been directly touched by armed conflict, whether through migration, past experiences, or ongoing struggles. “If War Comes to You” aims to bridge these diverse perspectives, fostering meaningful conversations that transcend borders and build bridges of empathy.

Prepare to witness the complexities of war, challenge your assumptions, and emerge with a renewed commitment to creating a world where the suffering caused by armed conflict is diminished. Let us embark together on this exploration of human resilience, compassion, and the enduring hope for a better future.

The project

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and European National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have come together to fulfill their mandate, conferred by state parties to the Geneva Conventions. This initiative aims to disseminate and assist governments in promoting and disseminating International Humanitarian Law.

In 2019 governments and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement agreed a resolution ‘Bringing IHL Home’. They agreed to explore new, innovative methods to promote respect for IHL.

A further pledge was made by the European Union, its member states, and EU National Societies to support the development and utilization of innovative forms of dissemination, including digital technology and new media formats, to more effectively reach civilian populations directly affected by armed conflict.

This project, initiated by the ICRC, the Danish Red Cross and the Red Cross and Red Crescent European Legal Support Group, helps to fulfil these important commitments.

With thanks also to the British Red Cross, German Red Cross, Icelandic Red Cross, Luxembourg Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross, Portuguese Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross, and the Swiss Red Cross for their generous contributions.
